strengthening young people’s influence and civic engagement.

Intervention’s contribution to gender transformation by;
Providing equal opportunities for men and women in accessing employment opportunities, access to devolved fund as capital, capacity building on entrepreneurship and employability skills.

Intervention’s contribution to gender transformation by; •Promoting gender equity and women/girl empowerment •Gender awareness campaigns •Promoting women participation in safety initiatives

Key intervention strategies
•Public safety and safe transport awareness campaigns and events-Road/Radio/TV Shows ; Posters on streets and transportation hubs
•Training of local police officers on reporting and intervention in harassment cases of girls and young women during transport
•Training youth ambassadors •
Engagement forums at city level on safe public transport-Multi-stakeholders meetings/City Level alliance meeting will be held
•Part of this intervention will involve the Matatu Union and the National Transport and Safety Authority in order to ensure their support to such city level campaigns and awareness on safety in urban transport

Target Group
The project targets Young women and men aged 15-25 living in Kenya’s fragile urban areas of Mukuru, Mathare, and Kibera in Nairobi; Nyalenda and Kondele in Kisumu and Mombasa, later on, including the most vulnerable and excluded segments of the youth population; young women and men making their living in the informal sector, young women subjected to violence and abuse in public transport.
